INPUTS AND STRATEGIES

The Project Management endeavors to assemble human, technical and financial resources in order to ensure the smooth and cost-efficient implementation of the project.

During the pre-project start-up phase, in October to December 2008, the following strategies as project inputs are put to place:
  1. Institutional Endorsements

    The project shall be favorably endorsed by the following institutions (endorsements must be in by the end of November, 2008):
    • The BIMP-EAGA
    • City of Davao Local Government
    • Regional Development Council
    • Association of Regional National Agencies in Region 11(ARENA 11)
    • Foreign Embassies and Consular Offices
  2. Events Organizing and Networking

    Core Project staff under the Festival Director are recruited, oriented and organized in October to plan the details of the project milestones as well as follow-through the agreed-upon implementation mechanisms. The project staff shall focus on events organizing.

    On the other hand, the Festival Board shall hold series of consultations with potential corporate sponsors who shall invest on the project. Likewise, the Project Executive shall be responsible for the networking activities and engage the identified organizations and institutions as anchors of the festival events.
  3. Organizational Anchoring of Festival Events

    The festival components and events may appear too massive for a thin organization. Thus, the strategy is to convince institutions and organizations to anchor the priority festival events. Anchoring would mean organizing the participants, mobilizing audiences and pooling of resources. The following are the various arts-focused festival events and the corresponding identified anchor institutions that will be tapped by the Festival Management Board:
    • Visual Arts Exhibitions anchored by the PWC School of Fine Arts and the Ford Academy of the Arts and the Davao Arts Foundation;
    • Theatre Arts Festival anchored by the Davao Association of Colleges and Schools (DACS) and MINDULANI Inc.;
    • Mindanao Dance Day anchored by the Department of Education Region 11 and Philippine Folkdance Society-Davao Chapter;
    • Pinoy & Asian Music Concerts Series anchored by Matina Town Square;
    • BIMP-EAGA Film Festival anchored by the Ateneo de Davao University Humanities Department and the Association of Independent Film Makers;
    • Pinoy & Asian Music Concerts Series anchored by Matina Town Square;
    • Architecture Exhibition anchored by the Association of Architects in the Philippines (AAP-Davao Chapter) and Museo Dabawenyo.
  4. Generating Investments on “Arts-for-Nature” and Artists Welfare

    Funding the Living Arts Asia Festival can be generated through a “social marketing strategy” appealing to the social responsibility that the target corporate sponsors uphold. It should be very clear from the beginning that the project does not ask for donations rather, the project solicits for investments on “arts-for-nature”. The Committee on Ways and Means shall spell out the benefits that that project shall provide to the entire Davao Population, in accordance to the desired project’s impacts and outcomes as stated above.

    Moreover, the Project Management shall reiterate that a huge portion of the resources that will be generated shall form part as “endowment fund for the future”. In this way, a straightforward corporate image must be evolved and promoted by the Project Management and its principal beneficiary --- the Save Davao Gulf Foundation.
